ITALIAN ROOTS, DAILY ROOTS. For the artist, still life is intrinsically root from a historical, geographical, and ultimately interpretative perspective. Still life has been studied since antiquity through written accounts, frescoes, and floor mosaics. It flourished again in Europe, especially with the consolidation of Giotto's naturalism, but whether the "post-ancient" still life first resurfaced in Italy or the Netherlands is still an open debate. This does not change the fact that still life has a strong presence (and maybe even a resurgence) in Italy, the artist’s hometown.

From an interpretative and experiential perspective, the artist experiences the creative act with still life as a dialogue with the silent background, the underlying root, of everyday, with objects and "nature" that furnish and give nuance to the places and situations we experience. The silent contemplation of these objects is as profound as it can be for an animated model, because even a small, apparently inert subject can be a bearer of movement/life: a personal or collective message about a place, a lifestyle, or an ideology.

RADICI ITALIANE, RADICI QUOTIDIANE. Per l’artista la Natura Morta è intrinsecamente radice, per un punto di vista storico, uno geografico e l’ultimo interpretativo. Ci si dedica alla Natura Morta dall’antichità attraverso resoconti scritti, affreschi e mosaici pavimentali. Rifiorisce in Europa sopratutto con il consolidarsi del naturalismo di Giotto, ma se la natura morta “postantica” abbia avuto la prima ricomparsa in Italia o nei Paesi Bassi è un dibattito ancora aperto. Ciò non toglie che la natura morta abbia un forte domicilio (e forse anche rinascita) in l’Italia, paese natale dell’artista.

Dal punto di vista interpretativo e esperienziale l’artista vive l’atto creativo con la natura morta come un dialogo con lo sfondo silenzioso, la radice sottesa, delle giornate quotidiane, con oggetti e “nature” che arredano e danno sfumatura ai luoghi e situazioni che viviamo. La contemplazione silenziosa di questi oggetti è profonda quanto lo può essere per un modello animato, perchè anche un piccolo soggetto apparentemente inerte può essere portatore di movimento/vita: un messaggio personale o collettivo su un luogo, uno stile di vita o un’ideologia.
